The object of the game is to achieve a hand total closest to nine; tens and picture cards and any combination of cards with a joint count of ten, count as nothing, for example 6 + 4 = 0, 10 + 2 = 2. All cards are dealt face up (open).
Players may bet with the person drawing the cards from the shoe (Banco) or against the person drawing the cards from the shoe (Punto), before the first card is drawn. Cards are dealt alternately from the shoe to the Dealer (acting for the Punto) and then to the person with the shoe (Banco) until both sides have two cards each. If the rules call for a third card either party or both must take their third card, the Dealer receives first. In case of a "stand off" the hand is replayed.
A Player betting on Banco and winning is paid 19 to 20. A Player betting on the Punto and winning is paid even money. If the Banker (Banco) wins he retains the shoe, If he loses, the shoe moves to the Player on his right. A Player may pass the shoe at any time. A further wager may be placed in the Egalité position. Should the final result of the hand be a "stand off" then this additional wager is paid at 8 to 1.
Punto Banco may also be played on the smaller ‘D’ shaped table in which case the Dealer will draw the cards for both the Banker and for the Player.
In the event of any dispute the Inspectors decision is final.
